Senior Financial Controller

Overview

The Financial Controller plays a critical role in the overall financial management of the Shipsta S.a.r.l and its subsidiaries (together "SHIPSTA"), a Luxembourg based LogTech company.

The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing and managing all financial activities within SHIPSTA, ensuring the financial health, stability, and growth of the companies. The Financial Controller will report to the Chief Executive Officer of SHIPSTA and collaborate with other members of the executive team / board to drive the company's financial strategy.

Key responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Planning

  • Drive the annual budgeting and forecasting process for the SHIPSTA. This includes collaborating with the CEO and other departments to ensure that their financial plans are consistent with SHIPSTA’s overarching strategy.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to the CEO and other senior executives to support informed decision-making.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and other relevant financial metrics for SHIPSTA.
  • Establish standardized financial reporting processes across SHIPSTA to ensure uniformity and comparability of financial data.
  • Coordinate with different teams to aggregate and consolidate financial information into accurate and coherent reports for presentation to the executive team and the board.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis, identifying areas of potential cost savings, and opportunities for revenue growth.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and tax laws across SHIPSTA’s operations including transfer pricing rules, taxes   (corporate taxes, VAT, and other taxes), regulatory filing deadlines and procedures, and other applicable regulatory requirements such as ESR, etc.
  • Monitor deadlines for various regulatory filings and manage timely filing.
  • Monitor changes in regulations and industry standards that could impact SHIPSTA's financial operations and take proactive steps to ensure compliance.

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Develop a centralized approach to cash management, optimizing the utilization of cash resources across SHIPSTA.
  • Implement cash forecasting processes to ensure liquidity requirements are met for all entities within SHIPSTA.
  • Monitor cash flow movements, foreign exchange exposures, and interest rate risks across SHIPSTA and implement strategies to mitigate potential impacts.
  • Oversee banking relationships, including credit lines, cash management services, and placement of surplus funds in deposits.
  • Monitoring and follow ups for receivables, payables and other working capital items.

Investor relations

  • Be a key point of contact alongside the CEO for investor relations activities for SHIPSTA, providing consistent and transparent communication regarding SHIPSTA's financial performance, strategy, and outlook.

Operations

  • Coordinating with sales to drive timely issuance of invoices.
  • Managing payments and payments channels (cards, cheques, ACH, etc.).
  • Timely recording of finance entries in Odoo or other ERP, as applicable.
  • Identifying and implementing cost efficiency measures.    
  • Day-to-day management of wider Finance team.

Qualifications

  •  Professional certification such as CA (Chartered Accountant), CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent qualification in Europe is a must.
  • A proven track record of success in progressively responsible financial leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (IFRS proficiency must), and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of regulatory aspects including transfer pricing, taxes, regulatory filing deadlines and procedures, and other applicable regulatory requirements such as ESR reporting, etc.
  • Hands-on knowledge of financial reporting systems such as Odoo and other ERPs.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading and managing teams, fostering a collaborative and results-driven   function.
  • Fluency in English and either German or French
